Facts Pertaining To Job Search

by Alex Wu

A person, upon completing his education or training is expected to start with a job search to contribute as a worker and an employee and fulfill their share of responsibility as a citizen and a social being.

A job is the first step in the cyclic evolution of a human being these days. It is a jungle out there and there is stiff competition for every single opportunity. The better your skills, talent and education qualifications are, the better job you find yourselves in. Unemployed people who are that way not because of a lack of opportunity but due to complacency and a lack of will are always looked down upon.

Unemployment not by choice but by the lack of opportunities on the other hand is sympathized with generally. The procurement of a job is central to ensuring your continued growth in the society and the steady progress of your life cycle. It is the often the harbinger of other life events such as marriage and family life.

The job market has a dearth of opportunities in the present situation owing to economic slowdown and cut backs on everything. The recession and its ill effects enjoin upon every employee to be cautious and watchful and those that are still employed consider themselves lucky in the light of mass retrenchments and downsizing that corporate have indulged in indiscriminately in the aftermath of the economic whitewash, hoping to tide over this crisis by making sacrificial lambs out of the careers of quite a few chosen employees.

For fresher's who are out of college and looking to procure a job, the scene is rather bleak and it is advisable to get your hands on any opportunity that presents itself rather than waiting around, hoping to land the ideal job. One can seek out and find many job opportunities online by scouring job websites which allow you to list your resumes for the benefit of prospective employers. Browsing the careers section of your daily newspaper and writing to recruiter and consultants who operate in your chosen field of employment is also advisable if you are on the lookout for a job.

If your qualifications and skills are so specific as to warrant you a career in which the opportunities are obscure and minimal it is imperative that you take the initiative and short list prospective employers and directly approach them in the absence of intermediary consultants and recruiters. Some jobs would not be found listed on websites or advertised in newspapers. These have to be actively found using whatever resource that is available to you like knowing someone who is already working in the field that you wish to enter or having contacts in the right places who would be able to guide you.

They say that you need to bullshit your way through an interview in order to get selected. Once you get shortlisted by all those employers whom you had sent your resume to you need to start planning on how to impress them with your skills, training and educational qualifications and any experience that you might have. Having an excellent resume that boasts of your qualifications and experience is very important. Those with adequate experience might get away with having poor educational qualifications as long as they can convince the interviewers that they are capable of doing the job as good as or even better than those with higher and more meritorious qualifications.

The initial process of selection would be a telephonic screening which would be followed by an interview with the short listed candidate. It is important to have excellent communication skills which you could use to your advantage during interviews and group discussions to surge ahead of the competition.

There might be competing candidates who are more talented and have more impressive educational qualifications to boast of, but if you are an able and eloquent speaker who can spin a yarn and convince the interview panel of your suitability then the job could very well be yours. It is also important to prepare well in advance and to picture every possible question and scenario that you might encounter within the interview room.
