You should ask a couple of questions before entering the niche marketing business. Take a good inspection at the questions people most frequently ask or should ask prior to entering into the business of niche marketing.

Engaging in research is the most appropriate method to find a profitable niche. Check out what people are searching for on discussion boards. Keyword research software can be used to see what the most popular searches are on any given subject. To discover new trends and movements you must keep you ears open.

I may have found a niche but is it profitable? You can tell if a niche is profitable in a number of ways. Perhaps the niche you have found is good if the terms related to the niche seem to be searched regularly and that there aren't too many people competing for them on search engines like Google. You should also consider the possibility that the niche is not heavily marketed to simply because it is not marketable. There will be heavy search volumes and a lot of competition for some niches. If your product or niche marketing effort is not top notch and efficiently promoted it might fail due to the high level of competition yet it could clearly be profitable.

And finally, there are these obscure niches with no one competing in them. If there is really no market or if the information can be found for free on the web you should leave this area alone. Test your niche so you are convinced that it is good.

In what ways should I test my niche? You might pitch or create a hypothetical product and visit discussion boards and ask questions about it. Poll people that will read your thread so you can use them to gauge exactly how people are responding to your idea if the internet marketing discussion boards will allow that.
